Why You Should See Your Dentist Regularly
For patients who do not like to visit their general dentist in Los Angeles may be wondering why they need to attend appointments so often. There are several reasons why you should visit your dentist regularly, and they may convince you to make an appointment today.
It is recommended that everyone see a dentist at least once every six months. There are two parts of every visit: the check-up and the cleaning.
The check up
During the first half of the visit, your dentist will examine your teeth and see if there is any plaque to be removed. Plaque is bacteria that build up in the mouth and turn into tartar, which cannot be removed with brushing and flossing. The dentist will check your gums, as well, and make sure they are not at risk of disease.
The cleaning
The second half of the appointment is when special tools are used to remove the tartar and other unwanted bacteria and debris – a process called scaling. Then a gritty paste is applied, which is used to polish the teeth. The appointment will end with flossing.
Attending a dental appointment twice a year can prevent many oral issues, such as periodontitis, severe decay, and even tooth loss.
