Maintaining Your Teeth at Home
While scheduling and keeping your regular dental appointments every six months is a critical part of oral health, proper maintenance and hygiene at home is even more so. There are a lot of things that patients should do to make sure they keep their smile looking and acting as healthy as possible.
Brush and floss properly
This is obvious, but understated. This simple daily activity can make the difference between a great smile and a poor one. Properly brushing involves doing so for two minutes each time, spending thirty seconds in each quadrant. Since many people do not spend the time nor effort to do so, many dentists recommend using an electric toothbrush, which can make up for some of the deficiency and can also time your brushing each time.
Get a mouth guard
Obviously, this is not for everyone, but definitely for those that grind their teeth. Research shows that teeth grinding can slowly wear down teeth, which will ultimately crack them and make them fall apart. You should never wait until this happens, but be proactive in protecting your teeth.
Know you mouth
You should know what problems you are most likely to experience. By knowing this, you can help avoid problems in the future by taking special care to avoid certain problems. If, for example, you know you have gum problems, invest in an antiseptic mouthwash and use it regularly.
Every six months, however, you should make an appointment with our dental cleaning dentist in Los Angeles to help make sure you catch problems early and prevent them from getting worse.
